Inhabitants of Beni near the Virunga park are fleeing the zone following the gruesome massacre of Saturday night.
The attack linked to Ugandan ADF rebels, caused 51 deaths.
Joseph Kabila had visited the area few days before it happened during which he promised that measures will be taken to ensure stability in the area.
Similar observations were made by Congolese prime minister Matata Ponyo after the attack occurred.
“We have the impression that terrorism is here. You went with me to some houses which look like burnt houses. People were killed and nothing was taken,” DR Congo’s prime minister, Matata Ponyo said.
Before visiting the area, Matata Ponyo had made a speech at Beni which was interrupted by angry area residents who declined condolences from the prime minister’s office as well as any eventual assistance from the state.
Their greatest wish is for peace to reign in the DR Congo.
DR Congo government officials fear that this attacks could incite the population against them especially as elections are expected to hold towards the end of this year.
